About Celso Pixinga
Celso Pixinga, the stage name of Celso Cláudio Cascarelli, is a reference of Brazilian bass and instrumental music. With more than four decades of career, the musician, composer, arranger and educator made the slap technique a trademark, approaching jazz, funk fusion, samba and MPB in performances of virtuosity, groove and self-identity.
His career includes the Free Jazz Festival, performances at the New York Blue Note and circulation throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas. He worked with Gal Costa, Wanderléa, Evandro Mesquita, Jane Duboc and Fat Family; in jazz, he collaborated with musicians such as Dave Weckl and Gonzalo Rubalcaba. From "Pixinga" and "Misser Funk" to "Free Flight", "Wake Up", "S.O.S. Bass" and "Slap Mania", his extensive discography reveals invention and versatility.
Creator of Pixinga Bass Festival, the artist also built a legacy in musical education. He coordinated the teaching activities of the bass, developed methods, video classes and workshops and participated in training meetings in the United States, contributing to reveal new generations of players.
