Bocato

Bocato, artistic name of Itacyr Bocato Júnior, is one of the great names of trombone and Brazilian instrumental music. Since 1976, he has built a career that unites jazz, samba-jazz, funk, MPB and experimentation, with striking improvisations, inventive arrangements and unmistakable language.

Connected to the vanguard of São Paulo, he worked with Arrigo Barnabas and Itamar Assumpção and integrated, in 1980, Elis Regina's band in the historic show and album "Saudade do Brasil". Her career includes works with Rita Lee, Ney Matogrosso, Roberto Carlos and other great artists of Brazilian music.

In 1982, he founded the Brazilian jazz rock band. His discography brings together projects such as "Tomical Trash", "Tributo a Pixinguinha", "Acid Samba", "Sculptures of Wind" (Sesc Seal) and "Bocato Jazz Experience 2022", which explores new sound possibilities between acoustic and electronic instruments.

With international circulation, he performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, touring Europe and participated in the Moscow Festival in 2003, accompanying Leny Andrade and João Donato. In 1998, he was nominated for the Sharp Best Fixer Award for "Tributo a Pixinguinha". In 2021, he was awarded the ProAC Expresso / Lei Aldir Blanc Award for Music Performance History.

His legacy also goes through the formation of new talents: between 2014 and 2015, he was curator of Music Echoes, at Sesc Osasco, guiding musicians and conducting performances. In 2026, he went on stage and musical education, with masterclass and show alongside Márcio Negri in Bauru, presentation "Bocato Toca com Surdina" in São Paulo and show with band announced in Osasco.
